| Solutions for Cleaning and Disinfecting | Contact lenses are rinsed and kept in saline solution. Lenses can be disinfected with enzymatic cleaning tablets or cleaning/disinfecting devices. It is forbidden to apply saline products for cleaning and disinfection. Your contact lenses are cleaned with daily cleaner. You should put some drops in the palm of your hand and carefully rub the lens during 20 second to have both sides cleaned. Other products can also be applied for rinsing and disinfection.
If you need to clean, rinse, disinfect and store your contact lenses, you should use multipurpose solution. It is recommended to clean your lenses every day using a daily cleaner; the following rinsing (according to the directions) and disinfection are recommended to be done applying the same solution. After the procedure you should rinse the lenses twice and put them in the clean lens case full with solution to further cleaning and disinfecting. As soon as you want to wear the lenses, rinse them again. If you apply regular multipurpose solutions, other products for lenses care cannot be used.
Those, who are sensitive to the preservatives that have multipurpose solutions, should use hydrogen peroxide systems. Such people should use hydrogen peroxide solution to clean, disinfect, rinse and store lenses. You should put the lenses in the lenses case with the solution and rinse them, then use another solution for cleaning and disinfecting. For hydrogen peroxide systems sometimes a built-in neutralizercan be used for converting the hydrogen peroxide to water to avoid stinging your eyes. In other cases a neutralizing tablet should be added. After the procedure you should rinse your lenses using another product; then you can insert lenses into the eyes.
Cleaning/disinfecting devices are used for cleaning and disinfecting your contact lenses. Sometimes the procedure of cleaning is done with either ultrasonic waves or subsonic agitation, it depends how disinfection happens, whether it is caused with via multipurpose solution or ultraviolet light. If you apply these devices, you should first rinse the lenses with either saline or multipurpose solution. According to one brand you should rub with the saline, more frequently one should not rub. After the procedure you should place your contact lenses in the device full of the same type of solution used for the rinsing. You should put the lid on the device and plug it for the procedure of lenses’ cleaning and disinfecting.
