When you are prescribed to wear contact lenses you have some time to adjust to them. Hard contact lenses take from 2 to 4 week period for adjusting. Soft contacts usually take less time. During this period of time you wear your contact lenses increasily longer than in the previous day.

Why It is Done
Contact lenses are used for correction  a lot of eye diseases: nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism, and combined nearsightedness and astigmatism. Toric lenses are used to correct astigmatism. Very often they are more expensive because they need to be custom-made.

Usually infants and children do not wear contact lenses, only if the lenses are prescribed for treatment some medical conditions or diseases. Nowadays a lot of teenagers wear contact lenses, but they and their parents must be ready for the need of frequent changes in the prescription till the time their eyes stop changing in the late teens or early 20s.

Almost everyone who has some problems with eyesight can wear  contact lenses. Some types of the lenses work better than others in correction of specific problems.
• Rigid gas-permeable lenses may be the best solution for  those people who suffer both from nearsightedness and astigmatism.
• Some people cannot wear hard lenses. Today there is a way out: soft lenses that correct both nearsightedness and astigmatism are available. Soft contact lenses are more comfortable than hard lenses, but hard lenses usually provide sharper vision.
• Most  patients face with problems with their contacts because they don't follow instructions according which you should wear your contacts for determinate time, clean and disinfect them in a proper way. Following these instructions you save your eye health and achieve the best results.

Some people prefer good vision correction more than greater comfort. People who suffer from severe nearsightedness or both nearsightedness and astigmatism may get the best vision correction from gas-permeable lenses, but they may be satisfied with with soft lenses, which are generally more comfortable than hard contact lenses.
