Computer Lens Designs
There are many special purpose lens designs suitable for computer glasses. Such lenses are prescribed specifically for computer use, they cannot be applied for driving or general purpose wear.

The simplest design has single vision lenses with a modified lens power prescribed for the most comfortable vision at the user’s computer screen. Such lenses can relax the quantity of accommodation necessary for keeping things in focus at the distance of the computer screen and providing the biggest field of view, besides they lessen the possibility of having eyestrain, blurred vision, and unnatural posture that lead usually to neck and back pain. Such lenses are applied both as younger and older computer users.

People who have presbyopia usually and the most frequently use the occupational progressive lens that is a no-line multifocal used for the correction of near, intermediate, and, up to a point, distance vision. Such lenses have a bigger intermediate zone comparing with regular progressive lenses for more comfortable vision at the computer. Their disadvantage is less lens area for distance vision. That’s why such lenses are not recommended for driving or other important distance vision tasks. Other computer lens for presbyopic computer users is a lined trifocal that has a larger intermediate zone comparing with regular trifocals. An occupational bifocal, with the top part of the lens for intermediate vision (computer screen) and the bottom portion for near vision (reading) can also be applied. Computer lenses can be found in clip-ons attached to regular eyeglasses. If you are not sure with the lens design, consult an eye doctor.

Besides, computer lenses provide eyestrain relief. They fix your blurry vision and reduce eyestrain from bright office lighting. If you have anti-reflective (AR) coating on your lenses, the quantity of glare and reflected light got into your eyes will be lessened.

More than 143 million Americans work on a computer daily and suffer from computer eyestrain. About 54 million children work at a computer daily either at home or in school. Children who work much on the computer stress a child's eyes and influence his or her vision. To lessen eyestrain one should use computer lenses.
As soon as you feel eye fatigue, blurriness and difficulty with focusing, you should shift your gaze from your and back again. Computer glasses provide you with comfortable vision while using the computer.

You should remember that your usual eyeglasses or reading glasses can not replace computer glasses necessary for computer work, because the distance between the user’s eyes and computer screens are from 20 to 26 inches. It is the intermediate zone of vision — closer than driving ("distance") vision, but farther away than reading ("near") vision. The purpose of eyeglasses is to correct their distance vision. The purpose of reading glasses is the correction of near vision. The purpose of bifocals used by people who are over age 40 with presbyopia is the correction of only near and far vision. Trifocals and progressive lenses (which do have some lens power for intermediate vision) are also not suitable for comfortable computer work. If computer users do not apply proper eyeglasses, they may encounter with a problem of computer vision syndrome. It is very bad, when people try to compensate for their blurred vision by leaning forward, or by tipping their head to look through the bottom portion of their glasses.
It was researched that computer eyeglasses can increase worker productivity and accuracy.
