| Lenses Types for Teens | There are different types of lenses depending on their features. The first feature is the material lenses are made of. By this characteristic they can be grouped into 2 types: soft lenses and gas permeable lenses (RGPs). The second feature is wearing time period (daily wear lenses and extended wear lenses). Such feature as changing plan is the third feature (according to this feature there are disposable lenses, which are changed for new ones each 7 or 14 days, and daily disposable lenses). Daily disposals are very convenient and they are safer. Also there are special lenses for astigmatism correction and bifocal lenses (they are also called torics).
If compare LASIK and lenses as an option of vision improvement for teenagers, there is no doubt that lenses are safer than LASIK. In fact, there are certain minimum age requirements for LASIK surgery: 18 or even 21 for different types of surgeries. The main reason of age restrictions is eye changing. Very often parents buy contacts for their children to see if they are good for them. After some time you can always change them back for eyeglasses and come back to lenses sometime later. Also a lot of people choose temporary wearing of lenses.
If you child wants to wear funny colored or “crazy” contacts, ask you eye care doctor for prescription ofright fitted lenses. Don’t buy such lenses without prescription and in unknown places (such as beauty salons, street markets etc.). Such lenses are to be treated in the same way as regular lenses.
A lot of older teenager girls like to combine make-up and lenses wearing. As an attentive parent, you should tell her about safety rules when applying and wearing make-ups each day: 1. Put cosmetics before inserting contacts. 2. Use only well-known and quality cosmetics. 3. Take off lenses before washing face. 4. Touch lenses and eyes only with washer hands. 5. Change each cosmetics item each 3 months. 6. Don’t use any cosmetics products if eyes are itching or swollen. 7. There are special cosmetics for people, who use contacts, prefer this type of it. 8. Use aerosol cosmetics before you insert your contacts. 9. Don’t allow your friends to use your brushes and applicators. 10. Apply water-miscible mascara and eyeliners instead of creamy cosmetics.
