Very often the only way for a teenager to improve his or her vision is to wear contact lenses, not eyeglasses.
Children at this age are very attentive to their appearance. They don’t want to wear eyeglasses because they afraid to look ugly or to be derided. The majority of teens hate when two pieces of plastic and glass is hanging down their noses. Contacts sometimes even help children to become more self-confident and easy going. Also contact lenses are irreplaceable for kids, who do sports.
The prices of contact lenses are very different and depend on the type of lenses and the brand. Also general cost of lenses depends upon the frequency of the lenses changing. You should add to the general price the cost of cleaning and disinfecting solutions, cases etc. A contacts wearer should have spare lenses also. You can save a certain sum of money if the eye practitioner prescribes for your child disposable lenses. Each day you will have to change them for the new ones. But the price of disposals is about $1, so you’ll have to spend about $30 a month, which is affordable.
There in no age limitation for wearing lenses. But, as many practitioners consider, the best age to start wear lenses is between 11 and 14.
Contact lenses are safer for teenagers than glasses are. They can’t be broken while doing activities (playing, doing sports etc.) unlike glasses. If a child has to wear protective mask during sports activities, lenses will be much more comfortable to wear.
If the child follows the instructions and wears lenses correctly, they are rather safe. Explain to your kid that he or she shouldn’t give the lenses to other kids and touch it without special need. Also you have to take your kid to his or her eye practitioner for planned examination regularly.
Your kid will have to visit an eye care doctor and pass eye examination procedure and fitting procedure. It’s absolutely necessary because lenses are medical devices and you have to have a prescription for buying it. An eye practitioner will examine you child and prescribe him or her right type of lenses. He will fit the right size, form and brand.
