| Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lenses | New "super-permeable" contact lenses can provide the entry of oxygen to your cornea and, in some cases they can be worn during 30 days without taking off.
Silicone hydrogel contact lenses are better than hydrogel soft contact lenses, because the quantity of oxygen through silicone lens (essential for a healthy cornea) is more. Their breathing possibilities are much better comparing with traditional lenses.
Traditional soft contact lenses are made from hydrogel polymers (soft, water-containing plastics). The plastic cannot provide the entry of oxygen, that’s why the water carries oxygen through the lens to the eye. The contens of water in a lens influences on its dehydration some time afterwards. Silicone and lenses’s polymer content provide the entry of oxygen through lenses. Silicone hydrogel contact lenses have more advantages than traditional soft contact lenses.
* Silicone hydrogel contact lenses include less water comparing with traditional hydrogel lenses. They are less prone to dehydration and provide more comfort.
* There are also 30-day contact lens wear silicone hydrogels that can be used only once.
Silicone hydrogel contact lenses can be worn up to 30 days without being taking off. Such lenses should be taken away and replaced every month not to have buildup of deposits located on the lens surface. The incidence of an infection caused by silicone hydrogel contact lenses leading to vision loss is less than 0.18 percent and visual acuity was less than 0.04 percent.
Continuous 30-day contact lenses wear is a good choice for the replacement of LASIK . One should remember that only two brands – Night & Day by CIBA Vision, and PureVision from Bausch & Lomb – can be worn for 30 days. Two other silicone hydrogels – Acuvue Oasys from Johnson and Johnson, and CIBA Vision's O2Optix – provide a better entry of oxygen comparing with traditional soft lenses and can be worn overnight six nightswithout discarging. Acuvue Advance and Biofinity can be worn only every day. The possibility of infection for hydrogel and silicone hydrogel lenses is less when you apply them every day. Silicone hydrogel lenses aren't found in all lens designs, diameters and curvatures.
30-Day contact lenses wear cannot be used by everyone, it is recommended to consult with an eye doctor
at first. Some people cannot sleep in contacts during a long time, people with previous problems with contacts are not suitable for 30-day lenses wear. If such lenses are not suitable for you, use silicone hydrogel lenses for daily wear.
