The Causes of Dry Eyes Syndrome

    * Achalasia-addisonian syndrome
    * Amitriptyline
    * Amyloidosis
    * Antipsychotic agents
    * Atropine
    * Bell's palsy
    * Chlorpheniramine
    * Chlorpromazine
    * Cinnarizine
    * Dehydration
    * Desipramine
    * Diphenhydramine
    * Dothiepin
    * Etretinate
    * Exophthalmos
    * Hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type 3
    * Hydroxyzine
    * Isotretinoin
    * Lagophthalmos
    * Levomepromazine

Some drugs and medications can also lead to dry eye sindrome:

    * Antihistamines
    * Decongestants
    * Antidepressants

People who wear long-term contact lens also suffer from dry eyes. Such people observe discomfort. There are two types of polymeric materials of soft contact lenses. They are made of hydrophilic plastics that has water in their content (it is about 30-75%, it depends on the duration of time you wear lenses). The larger quantity of water leads to quicker dehydration and the larger loss of water. While wearing lenses water evaporates from the front surface of the lens, thus they absorb water from natural tear film and you observe dryness in your eyes. Besides, there are some environmental conditions and activities that lead to the dehydration and Dry Eyes. Among them there are the heat in a room, a hair drier, air conditioning, active or passive smoking (someone smokes in your presence), exposure to wind while running or even bike riding. Such dry eye symptoms are not constant. If you change lens materials, such symptoms will be reduced.  If you have been wearing lenses for a long time, the dryness of eyes is also possible. The lenses rub against the conjunctiva and cause dry eye syndrom.

The dryness of eyes can be also caused with incomplete closure of the eyelids (appeared as a result of blepharoplasty), eyelid illness and a lack of the tear-producing glands.
Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses are made from polymeric materials avoid of water. They repel water and thus the tear film. They can cause the dryness of eyes.
