| The Causes of Dry Eyes Syndrome | Dry eye syndrome can also appear as a side effect of many medications, such as antihistamines, antidepressants, certain blood pressure medicines, Parkinson's medications, and birth control pills. Eyes become dry with age and during menopause. People living in a dry, dusty or windy climate are prone to it too. Air conditioning or a dry heating system leads also to the dryness of eyes. You can be sure that you suffer from dry eyes, if they are really red and irritated and you observe the feeling of scratchiness. Dry eyes can be caused with constant illnesses that influence the ability to make tears such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, rosacea or Sjogren's syndrome (a triad of dry eyes, dry mouth, and rheumatoid arthritis or lupus) and collagen vascular illnesses. If you have problems with eyes that prevent them to close in a proper way or something is wrong with the tear ducts.
Among other causes of dry eyes there are: Excessive reading and computer usage, windy weather, the dryness of air caused with home heating, air travel (the air in planes gets dry) and air conditioning due to the removal of moisture from the air.
