Farsightedness

* Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK). It permanently changes the chape of the cornea for better vision. Before LASIK anesthetic drops are used to numb the eye. A lid speculum will be  applied to prevent eyes from being closed and blinking while being operated on. During the creation of flap slight pressure can be observed. Then the surgeon folds back the flap to reveal the underlying corneal tissue. While the patient looks at the light, the doctor changes the shape of the cornea with the laser. As soon as the shape of the cornea gets steeper, the improval of vision is observed. The duration of the procedure is less than a minute. LASIK is performed with an instrument known as a keratome or a specially designed laser for making a thin, circular hinged cut into your cornea. After cutting layers from the center of your cornea are removed with excimer laser for changing the shape. An excimer laser is much better than other lasers due to its inability to produce heat. Ideal candidates for LASIK is recommended for people elder than 21, whose vision is stable.

* Laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK). After making a flap in the cornea's thin protective cover (epithelium) with an excimer laser the cornea's outer layers change their shape and steepen its curvature and then change the epithelial flap’s position. For quick recovering one should wear a bandage contact for some days as soon as you have been operated on.

* Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). It demands the removal of the epithelium that can renew itself. After the surgery a bandage contact lens should be worn for some days.
* Conductive keratoplasty (CK). During this surgery radio-frequency energy of heat is used on small spots around the cornea. With a special pen-shaped tool that releases radio frequency the amount of collagen around the edges of the cornea becomes less. The duration of the surgery is about 15 minutes per eye. A week after the surgery the vision gets much better. As soon as patients become elder, they need extra treament five or ten years afterwards. CK is recommended for people who are at least 40 years and whose vision is stable. The quantity and location of the spots depends on the degree of change. The cornea heals as quickly as it is cured. The results of CK can be different.
* CLEAR™ - Clear Lens Extraction and Replacement can be used in the treatment of farsightedness. The surgeon takes away the eye’s natural lens and inserts a special intraocular lens instead. So the patient has the correction of vision and its improval. Usually vision becomes better quickly and patients can return to work the very next day.
CLEAR™ are i recommended for people who are older than 40 and who are not recommended for other refractive procedures.

Farsightedness can lead to other vision problems, such as:
    * Crossed eyes. Sometimes farsighted children have crossed eyes and should wear specially designed eyeglasses.
    * An inability to enjoy life. Farsightedness being uncorrected prevents you from doing work well and enjoying your daily activities.
    * Eyestrain. Farsightedness being uncorrected leads to squinting or straining your eyes that helps to keep focus and to further eyestrain and headaches.
    * Uncomplete safety. It is better not to drive or perform difficult manual operations for farsighted people.

It is much easier to prevent farsightedness thatn to treat it.For the purpose it is required:
1) Regularly checked vision, no matter if any vision problems are available.
2) Control chronic health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, because they can influence your vision.
3) Symptoms should be known. If you observe rapid loss of vision in one eye, rapid hazy or blurred vision, flashes of light, black spots, or halos or rainbows around lights you may suffer from as acute glaucoma, a stroke, or some other treatable retinal condition such as retinal tear or detachment, you should apply to a doctor.
4) Eyes protection with sunglasses hindering ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is required. Eyes protection with sunglasses is especially necessary if you are for a long time in the sun or if a taken prescription medication makes you more sensitive to UV radiation.
5) Healthy foods with a lot of fruits and vegetables are recommended. Dark leafy foods and bright colored fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, yams and cantaloupe that have a lot of vitamin A and beta-carotene are also recommended.
6) The right glasses should be worn to correct your vision.
7) Good lighting is required to see objects better.
