| Keratitis | Inflammatory diseases of the cornea. The causes of this disease may be very different: trauma, bacterial and viral infections, fungal infections, chronic diseases (tuberculosis, syphilis, etc.), avitaminosis, dystrophic changes.
Keratitis is a serious disease that can lead to permanent deterioration of vision as a result of corneal opacity. In serious cases the endophthalmitis and panophthalmia can arise. Disease duration - a few weeks or months.
Keratitis superficial catarrhal. It arise with a conjunctivitis, blepharitis, chronic dacryocystitis. The main symptoms are photophobia, lacrimation, pain in the eye. The conjunctiva around the cornea becomes red.At the edge of the cornea appear isolated or discharge infiltrates, which can ulcerate. This keratitis is characterized by a long course without the dynamics. 
Treatment. At first you should remove the causes of disease. Solutions: penicillin, tetracycline 1%, 0,25% chloramphenicol, 0,5% gentamicin. Solutions that extend the pupil: 1% homatropine. Vitamin drops - citral, glucose. Solution of hydrocortisone- very cautiously. Inside: 10% p-p calcium chloride, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, pipolfen, suprastin.
Viral keratitis. There are many forms and varieties of this disease. Viral keratitis characterized by reduced sensitivity of the cornea, in the initial stage - the absence or weak reaction from the conjunctiva. The main symptoms are: herpetic rash or viral infections.
Treatment. Viral keratitis should to be treated in hospital. General treatment: vitamin therapy, drugs that stimulate immunity (levamisole). Antibiotics are widely used to prevent secondary infection.
